DESCRIPTION

CASTROL OPTIGEAR® SYNTHETIC X is based on synthetic hydrocarbons and a special PD additive.
The additive package, when activated by high specific loads and corresponding temperatures, helps to equalize surface roughness without creating abrasion, the so-called plastic deformation.
CASTROL OPTIGEAR® SYNTHETIC X synthetic gear oil is a CLP-HC gear oil (according to DIN 51502) and exceeds the minimum requirements according to DIN 51517, part 3, CLP gear oils.

 

APPLICATIONS

  • CASTROL OPTIGEAR® SYNTHETIC X may be used as gear oil in spur gear, bevel gears or planetary gear units in heavy loaded gear units, e.g. wind turbine main gears.
  • It is also suitable for the lubrication of oil-lubricated rolling bearings.
  • Depending on the specific application, CASTROL OPTIGEAR® SYNTHETIC X may be used in an operating temperature range from -30 °C to +95 °C.

DESCRIPTION

Castrol Aero HF 585B is a mineral oil based low viscosity hydraulic fluid which is intended for use in hydraulic systems where rapid system response is required, particularly at low temperatures. Castrol Aero HF 585B is ideally suited to accumulator driven emergency control systems. Castrol Aero HF 585B is produced from low viscosity highly refined mineral basestock, shear stable viscosity index improver, antioxidants, corrosion inhibitors and anti-wear additives.

 

APPLICATION

Hydraulic systems operating at low ambient temperatures or driven by accumulators, such as Emergency Shut Down Valves and Watertight Door Controls.

 

CONDITIONS OF USE

The wearing of impervious PVC (or other suitable material) apron and gloves, together with eye protection is recommended. Contaminated clothing should be changed immediately and thoroughly cleansed before re-use. This applies especially to under garments.

Castrol Molub-Alloy™ 1000 extreme temperature grease utilises synthetic base oils in conjunction with a blend of Molub-Alloy lubricating solids selected for high temperature service. The synthetic fluids in Molub-Alloy 1000 were selected for their controlled low volatility, minimum residue after evaporation and high VI for additional film strength at elevated temperatures. The combination of synthetic fluids and a unique thickening system offers physical stability in prolonged service at high temperatures. Molub-Alloy 1000 remains more pliable than conventional high temperature greases. As a result of the higher viscosity synthetic base fluids used in Molub-Alloy 1000, the film strength at elevated temperature is superior to that of petroleum base oils. It is also formulated with a combination of rust and oxidation inhibitors for prolonged service life without relubrication.

Application

Molub-Alloy 1000 is designed for use in applications where elevated temperatures are encountered, heavy and shock loading occurs, and where bearing speeds are low to moderate. Molub-Alloy 1000 has been successfully used in a wide range of elevated temperatures industrial applications such as:

  • In overhead sealed trolley wheel conveyor bearings passing through paint drying ovens in an air conditioner manufacturing plant. Temperatures reached 180°C/356°F and relubrication cycles were every 8 months.
  • In overhead sealed trolley wheel conveyor bearings passing through a paint drying oven in an automotive assembly plant. Temperatures reached 185°C/365°F with relubrication cycles every 6 months.
  • In floor conveyor bearings passing through paint drying ovens in an automotive assembly plant. Temperatures of 190°C/374°F were reached with relubrication cycles every 6 months.
  • In overhead sealed trolley wheel conveyor bearings passing through paint drying ovens of a motorcycle assembly plant. After 4 months without relubrication in temperatures of 180°C/356°F, the bead of product on the outside of the trolley wheels was still soft and pliable. Relubrication cycles were every 6 months.
  • In a cement rotary kiln as a gas-seal lubricant to minimise hot gas leakage.

Castrol Molub-Alloy™ 2115 grease is a thermally stable high temperature synthetic bearing lubricant. It is formulated from an advanced synthetic fluid and thickened with a temperature stable non-soap base. Molub-Alloy 2115 includes a blend of performance additives and Molub-Alloy lubricating solids for exceptional wear protection and is designed to greatly extend service life and relubrication intervals in high temperature bearings.

Application

Primarily developed for extended service in oven conveyor bearings, Molub-Alloy 2115 is recommended for bearings operating in paint drying ovens, textile tentering frames, and similar applications where minimum reapplication and dripfree performance is required. Molub-Alloy 2115 can be used in continuous service at 250°C/482°F and may be exposed to intermittent temperatures up to 280ºC/536ºF. Forced draft ventilation should be used at temperatures exceeding 200ºC. Molub-Alloy 2115 can be applied manually or with automatic dispensing equipment.

 

 

User benefits include:

  • Thermally and chemically stable – unparallel resistance to oxidation at high temperatures therefore extending relubrication intervals without undue risk of under lubrication, lubrication starvation, or an increase in power draw.
  • Virtually inert below 300ºC/575ºF – resists the thickening and hardening that is typical of petroleum greases in high temperature service.
  • Even at high temperatures, Molub-Alloy 2115 is resistant to organic solvents and most chemicals, including strong acids, alkalis, and oxidising agents.

Molub-Alloy 2115 should not be mixed with other greases or oils. In case of doubt please consult your local Technical Services. Molub-Alloy 2115 has a very low order of toxicity at room temperature with no significant irritation to skin or eyes. At 200ºC/392ºF, small quantities of toxic fumes are generated. The use of 2115 above 200ºC is not recommended without the use of forced draft ventilation. At 300ºC/572ºF, 2115 decomposition begins to accelerate, and small amounts of highly toxic, potentially acidic vapours are formed. Positive draft ventilation to the atmosphere is essential. Clean-up may be difficult because of the excellent resistance to ordinary cleaners and solvents. However, there are some industrial cleaners (fluorinated solvents) which can be used effectively.

CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 high temperature grease with TGOA® is a clear multi-service lubricant designed to extend the service life of bearings in heavy-duty applications and at elevated temperatures. Because of the high base oil viscosity CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 provides a heavier oil film for applications at slower speeds, higher loads and / or higher temperatures. The patented TGOA® additive technology under those adverse conditions provides for an unsurpassed protection against friction and wear. CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 is formulated from a mixture of high-quality synthetic base oils (PAO & ester) and a lithium complex thickener, with corrosion inhibitors and antioxidants for long service life. The load carrying, antiwear and friction reducing capabilities of CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 exceed conventional complex greases. High performance is the result of the TGOA® additives which, under relatively high specific loads and related temperatures, promote a non-destructive smoothing of the surface roughness in the micro-range. The smoothing effect leads to an increase of the actual load carrying area and reduces friction. TGOA® additives are very effective in protecting the machined surface of bearings during the critical “running-in” period. Good bearing surfaces are essential for long bearing life. If, because of shock loads or stop-and-go operation, surface roughness peaks redevelop, the TGOA® additive package is automatically reactivated. Surface roughness is again smoothed and lubrication optimised.

Application

CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 grease with TGOA® is designed as a multi-service lubricant for heavy-duty applications of rolling and sliding bearings for temperatures up to 160°C (peak temperatures up to 180°C). CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 grease should be used when loads are moderate to heavy and speeds are slow to moderate.

 

Conditions of Use

  • CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 grease with TGOA® should not be mixed with greases using a different thickener.
  • Lubricating intervals should be increased gradually after changing over to CASTROL TRIBOL® 4747 to ensure complete removal of the previous lubricants and to use the TGOA® additives to their full advantage. Their performance might be affected by residual greases containing solid lubricants.
  • At peak temperatures of 180°C relubrication intervals should be established by inspection.

Castrol Nucleol G121 is a radiation resistant grease based upon a high viscosity mineral oil with an inorganic thickener system, which gives outstanding thermal and radiation stability. Castrol Nucleol G121 also provides a high level of corrosion protection for components exposed to hostile environments.

 

Application

Due to the high viscosity of the base oil of Nucleol G121 it gives good performance in low speed bearings but is not suitable for use at moderate or high speeds. Nucleol G121 is ideally suited for the lubrication of control rod mechanisms. Nucleol G121 comfortably exceeds the UKAEA Schedule I requirements for radiation resistance and is fully approved for use within nuclear installations.

Nucleol G121 meets the Schedule I volatility limit of 4% after 400 hrs at 150ºC with CO2 flow of 1 litre/min.

CASTROL TRIBOL™ 3020/1000 fluid greases with TGOA™ were designed for applications which require good pumpability of the lubricant and properties to withstand heavy loads. In gear units which are not sealed oil-tight and in large slow-speed bearings the CASTROL TRIBOL 3020/1000 greases provide for a sufficient lubricating film due to their high base oil viscosity. The TGOA additive package outperforms all other EP and antiwear additives because of its unique action on frictional surfaces.
CASTROL TRIBOL 3020/1000 have a lithium soap as thickener. The base oils are high-viscosity mineral oils forming a stable lubricant film to withstand high continuous loads, shock loads and vibrations. The TGOA additive package is activated by high specific loads and corresponding temperatures causing a chemical physical reaction. This results in an equalisation of surface roughness without creating abrasion. The results of the TGOA additives can be compared with a rolling process in the micro-range. The surface roughnesses are gradually leveled and smoothed. Through smoothing of the working surfaces, the loads are distributed over increasing areas and the actual load carrying areas are enlarged. During the running-in process, the TGOA additive package creates an optimum of smooth contact surfaces. If, because of shock loads, or stop-and-go operation, surface roughness peaks redevelop, the TGOA additives are automatically reactivated. Surface roughness is again equalized and lubrication optimised.
Corrosion and oxidation inhibitors maximise effective rust protection and long life of the grease.
CASTROL TRIBOL 3020/1000 meet NLGI consistency grades commonly available for these types of lubricants.

 

Application

Typical applications for CASTROL TRIBOL 3020/1000 fluid greases are non-oil-tight gear units, rolling and sliding bearings, bushings, slides and general lubrication designed for fluid-grease lubrication. Operating temperatures range from –40°C to +120°C.

Description
OPTICOATING TF SPRAY is a powdered solid lubricant with good adhesion to metal surfaces with high surface finish. It is especially suited for lubrication of tight-fitting components. Its dry sprayable film is ideal for hard to reach lubricating points.
OPTICOATING TF SPRAY also provides good base lubrication to eliminate wear, friction and stick-slip. It avoids damaging of sliding surfaces working under extreme loads.

 

Application

Automatic transfer machines have been widely adopted by the automotive industry for machining automatic transmission housings and similar components. Demands for increased production have led to the design of higher and higher speed automatic transfer machines. Castrol Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are manufactured by adding a small amount of a synthetic thickener to standard ISO grade gear oils. The small addition has a moderate thickening effect on the oils, especially in the container, or while not in motion. During the stirring action of gears and bearings, however, 969 exhibits the rapid flow and film-forming characteristics similar to the original base gear oils.

 

Application

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds were originally developed for service in heavy duty earth moving equipment such as shovels and draglines. Surging stress and vibration on these machines inevitably produces some degree of leakage from gear cases. Excessive leakage at shaft seals is not uncommon on hoist, drag, propel, and especially swing gear cases of large draglines and swing cases of shovels. Often the tramp oil will contaminate the heavy gear compounds necessary to lubricate the exposed open gear drives. The use of 969 Gear Compounds can also be extended to control leaks in gear sets in industrial and marine applications. Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are specially formulated to help control leaks in gear cases.

The synthetic thickener forms a mat-like matrix at the points of leakage to minimise the flow of oil. Leakage from gear cases has traditionally been controlled by the substitution of a grease for the lubricating oil. This is unsatisfactory because greases can channel, and are poor at carrying heat away from the meshing gears and dissipating from the gear case. The moderate thickening of Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are not the characteristic that helps to control leaks at cracks and seals, it is the nature of the synthetic thickener to link or gel to bridge the opening with a restricting consistency. Other than this restricting action at small openings, Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds act very much like the original base gear oil in service.

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds were developed using base oil viscosities of ISO standard grades. Currently we offer a leak resistant gear oil with the base oil ISO viscosity grade of 320.

 

Important Restrictions

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are not for use in units that include a central lubricating system as they will not pump like an oil nor flow through small lines. 969 will plug filters (see NOTES).

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds should not be used in gear cases where shaft bearings are lubricated by oil flowing through small lines or orifices as they will seal small openings or seriously restrict oil flow. On the other hand, where bearings are submerged, and oil flow is not unidirectional, flow is not restricted.

Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are designed for use in gearboxes where gear oil make-up volumes are unacceptable due to worn shaft seals or other minor causes of leakage. Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds are not designed to prevent leakage due to gross mechanical defects such as worn bearings and damage causing shafts to experience excessive play which results in excessive lubricant make up. The Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds would not normally be used in non-leaking gearboxes as a preventative measure.

 

Notes

  • Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds may be metered through grease pumping systems, but would be expected to cavitate in oil circulating pumps.
  • Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds will flow readily when agitated but should not be expected to flow by gravity or feed through small lines. Molub-Alloy 969 Leak Resistant Gear Compounds must be stirred vigorously before use.
  • Since filters must be removed when using 969, routine oil sampling is strongly recommended.

Developed for service in enclosed gear drives, journals and anti-friction bearings, the Tribol 1100 Gear Oils are typically used where heavy and shock load conditions prevail. TGOA is an oil soluble additive package designed to reduce friction while providing surface protection and improvement. The TGOA additive package out-performs all other EP and anti-wear additives because of its unique action on frictional surfaces. The TGOA additive package is activated by high specific loads and corresponding temperatures causing a chemical-physical reaction. This results in an equalisation of surface roughness without creating abrasion. Therefore, surface roughness is reduced without the loss of surface material.

The results of the TGOA additive can be compared with a rolling process in the micro-range. The surface roughness is gradually levelled and smoothed. Through smoothing of the working surfaces, the loads are distributed over increasing areas and the actual load-bearing areas are enlarged.

During the running-in process, the TGOA additive package creates an optimum of smooth contact surfaces. If, because of shock loads or stop-and-go operation, surface roughness peaks redevelop, the TGOA additive package is automatically reactivated. Surface roughness is again equalised and lubrication optimised.

Additional Information:

At temperatures above 121ºC/250ºF, regular reapplications of 860 ES must be considered. At temperatures near 177ºC/350ºF, weekly reapplications of 860 ES are suggested. For continuous service near 204ºC/400ºF, reapply 860 ES daily or once each shift. Molub-Alloy 860 ES greases have been used above 232ºC/450ºF. However, frequent reapplication of grease is necessary to prevent deterioration of the petroleum base oil. Reapply before the grease in the bearing stiffens. In order to minimize potential incompatibilities when converting to a new grease, all previous lubricant should be removed as much as possible prior to operation. During initial operation, relubrication intervals should be monitored closely to ensure all previous lubricant is purged.

CASTROL MOLUB-ALLOY™ 936 SF is a uniquely compounded open gear lubricant developed specifically for use on heavy-duty equipment in mining and industrial service. It forms a tough lubricating film on the friction surfaces which is resistant to pressure and shock loads as well as unfavourable ambient conditions.
The structural integrity and strength of the lubricating film is particularly valuable in the critical process of running in new gears because of the natural occurrence of high spots (asperities) in newly machined surfaces. The lubricating film must separate the mating surfaces sufficiently to cushion the effect of the impact of asperities, and thus minimize initial pitting which could lead to progressive and destructive pitting later.
A highly refined, viscous, paraffinic petroleum derivative is the foundation of a blended base fluid with excellent natural chemical and thermal stability. CASTROL MOLUB-ALLOY™ 936 SF is compounded to flow readily in the film-forming process, yet it resists "squeeze-out" and clings tenaciously even to gear teeth in vertical orientation.

Alusol SL 51 XBB is suitable for large central systems and single sump machines.

Alusol SL 51 XBB is especially designed for machining of aluminum alloys. The product can also be used for machining of ferrous alloys.
